Hello gestational diabetes, Goodbye pastry
Yes, it's official, I have gestational diabetes. Fortunately the doctors and nutritionist seem to think I will be able to keep it under control with diet and exercise. I have been monitoring my glucose levels and following a diet plan since friday. So far I have actually been feeling really good and I have been below my maximum glucose levels. There are definitely pros and cons to having this right now.
- Pro: feeling good because my glucose levels are, well, level through out the day
- Con: having to prick my finger to check said levels four times a day
- Pro: getting some kind of exercise EVERY DAY
- Con: getting some kind of exercise EVERY DAY - even if I don't feel like it
- Pro: paying attention to what and how much I eat a time time
- Con: no more pastry - Baby and I were loving danish, bear claws, donuts. The bakery is now like a drug den for us. How badly I want to stop and get my pastry fix but I can't - no good for us right now
- Pro: getting extra ultrasounds to monitor the baby's growth - which means extra pictures of the very cute Baby Joy (new pictures coming tomorrow)
- Con: finding out through ultrasound that Baby Joy weighs 4 lbs. when I still have 2 1/2 months to go (baby should be weighing a little over 2 lbs). Any thoughts I had of delivering a nice small 7lb baby are now out the window
You get the picture. This is only for the rest of the pregnancy - I can handle it. I'm just going to be a busy girl. Between my regular OBGYN appts (which are now every 2 weeks), my diabetes appts (every 2 weeks), my nutritionist appts (every 3 weeks), and ultrasounds (every 4 weeks) my insurance company is going to hate me. Oh well, that's what we pay for. Other than being big ( both of us), Baby Joy and I are doing really well. We're just passing time until we can meet face to face.
Love,
